If you’ve decided to pursue surgery for gynecomastia, then you’ve taken the right step in choosing a renowned and experienced plastic surgeon such as Dr. Ashley Tregaskiss. We pride ourselves on creating a warm and welcoming environment at Pacific Plastic Surgery and look forward to helping you achieve a new level of confidence. As you schedule your consultation with our team to learn more about gynecomastia surgery, here’s a guide to what you can expect before, during, and after your male breast reduction surgery.

Before Gynecomastia Surgery

You’ll begin your surgical journey by meeting with our plastic surgeon and discussing your reasons for choosing cosmetic surgery. Dr. Tregaskiss will examine your chest and recommend the ideal surgical approach for the look you want. You’ll learn more about gynecomastia surgery and the unique techniques he uses. You’ll also view before-and-after images of other gynecomastia patients so you can understand what results you can expect.

Dr. Tregaskiss will help you learn more about what you can expect from your recovery and begin preparing for surgery. You’ll be given a detailed list of ways to prepare and schedule a pre-surgical appointment to meet with Dr. Tregaskiss and our medical team. Make sure to spend time setting yourself up for a smooth recovery by ensuring a clean and comfortable living space, stocking up on snacks and entertainment, and obtaining any prescribed medications ahead of time.

During Gynecomastia Surgery

During your consultation, Dr. Tregaskiss will help you pick the right type of anesthesia for your procedure. If your procedure is minor and only involves liposuction, you may be able to use only local anesthesia. For more detailed procedures, general anesthesia may be recommended. Once you’re prepared, Dr. Tregaskiss will create small incisions on your chest, keeping in mind the natural contours to better hide scarring. He will lift and reposition the tissues, creating a flatter, more masculine look. Once complete, the incisions will be closed, and drains will be placed to help draw off fluid. Then, you’ll be able to return home.

After Gynecomastia Surgery

You will focus on resting after gynecomastia surgery, limiting your activity to light walking around the house. You can expect some pain and nausea – our team will prescribe and recommend medications to help manage side effects. Wearing a specialized compression garment is of the utmost importance after gynecomastia surgery – it helps reduce swelling and shape your results, meaning it should be worn as much as possible for the first six weeks. Although you can return to work within one to two weeks, you should continue to limit your activity for the first four to six weeks, at which point you can generally return to your normal activity level.

Your drains will be removed within the first week of surgery, and you’ll follow up with our team regularly to monitor your progress. Dr. Tregaskiss will provide a contact number to call if you have any questions or concerns about your recovery. Within three to six months, all swelling should subside and you can enjoy your final results.
