About Platelet Rich Plasma (or PRP)
Plasma is a part of your blood that is rich in platelets and has special proteins that both help the blood to clot and, significantly are vital for cell growth and healing. Platelets release small molecules which regulate tissue healing and stimulates the production of collagen. When injected into the scalp PRP stimulates new blood vessels and collagen, as well as nourishing the follicles. These actions combined can result in significant increase in hair growth.
Best results can be seen with a minimum of 3 treatments, spaced 1-2 months apart, however, the exact number of treatments needed will vary from individual to individual based on the responsiveness of their hair follicles.
FAQs
-
1Am I a good candidate for PRP for hair loss?
The best candidates for PRP treatments tend to be at the beginning stages of hair loss and have follicles that are at least partially still active. This, however, doesn’t mean that people with more advanced hair loss can’t have this treatment, it just means that it might take longer and more treatments to see a result.

2What results can I expect to see?
Most clients report an increase in fine hair growth anywhere from 3-6 months after their 3rd session. Some patients see results sooner and others may need repeated treatments before noticeable results are seen. As mentioned above, if your hair follicles are still active you may see results sooner, but if your hair follicles are not currently active it can take longer to see results.
-
3How long does the treatment take?
You can expect to be here for 45-75 minutes, although the injection of PRP only takes about 20 minutes.
-
4Is it painful?
You may experience some discomfort at the injection site, which is like the discomfort experienced when getting an immunization, or when getting local anaesthetic injected at the dentist. Most patients find it very manageable with facial massage stimulation and a stress ball which helps to distract your mind.

5What is the downtime?
The great news is the downtime is very minimal. Most people return to their normal activity immediately. Some people do experience some redness lasting for a few hours and up to 1 day, but this is rare. In addition, there is a risk of some bruising, but this is very low risk. We do ask you to not wash your hair until the next day and to avoid intense workouts and harsh chemicals on your hair for 72 hours after your treatment.
