Preparing for A Smooth Tummy Tuck Experience
March 28, 2024
Back To BlogAlthough you may be dreaming about your tummy tuck results, great cosmetic results don’t just happen overnight. In fact, if you want to get the best possible results from your tummy tuck, it’s important to start early with your preparation. Dr. Ashley Tregaskiss can help you learn more during a consultation, but in the meantime, here’s a guide to preparing for your tummy tuck in the months leading up to your procedure.
Six Months Before Surgery
As soon as possible, take steps to improve your overall health. Getting exercise, eating a varied diet, and drinking water will all help your recovery and increase your chances of a safe and successful procedure. Additional steps like quitting smoking, limiting alcohol, and reducing stress are also good steps toward improving your health, and thus, your results.
Four Months Before Surgery
If you haven’t already, you should be reaching your goal weight and establishing healthy exercise habits. At this time, you’ll start scheduling your appointments and surgery date, as well as getting information from Dr. Tregaskiss on what to expect. Now is a great time to ask questions and voice any concerns so that you can feel confident beginning your preparations.
Three Months Before Surgery
Your tummy tuck recovery will require you to avoid heavy lifting and other intensive activities, so now is the best time to arrange for help. Set up pet or child care from a close friend or family member (or arrange for professional help) so that you can focus on resting. Don’t forget to take time off work or school and ensure you have transportation to and from your appointments. If you need to make any travel arrangements or book accommodations, do so now.
One Month Before Surgery
In the month leading up to surgery, you’ll begin your post-surgical preparations in earnest. You’ll be given a list of materials to gather, including extra pillows, gauze pads, cool packs, over-the-counter medications, and a compression garment. Make sure to also stock up on entertainment that will let you rest and pass the time. Finally, prepare nutritious meals and healthy snacks that you can easily reheat or grab so you don’t need to worry about cooking.
The Day Before Surgery
You’ll be given explicit pre-surgical instructions by our team, and following these exactly is of the utmost importance. Avoid any food or drink the night before and the morning of surgery. Take any medications according to instructions by Dr. Tregaskiss and your doctor. Remove all piercings and wear only loose, comfortable clothing that is easily removable and fastens in the front. Finally, arrive at your designated location on time or even early. If you have any questions about your pre-surgical instructions, please contact us as soon as possible to ensure a smooth and successful surgery.
